DIY Skin Firming Coffee Scrub using Essential Oils

This recipe is soooo super easy, anyone can mix this baby up…

DIY skin firming coffee scrub using essential oils with doTERRA

A few years ago when I was fashion blogging; coffee scrubs (although being a ‘thing’ for many years) hit stores & the online world massively….like all trend-setting fads do. Some beautiful brands were born around this time and an array of coffee scrub beauty products were launched. I tried a couple and loved them…but found them costly, considering they didn’t last long (due to their small packaging options), so I made my own & loved it!

However, fast forward to now; 2019 and I’m more than ever more conscious about what I put on my skin and how I support my health. So I’ve started making a super easy (but highly effective) coffee scrub using doTERRA Essentials Oils and it’s all kinds of ah-mazing! Not only is it completely no-tox but it smells fantastic and supports your skin in so many ways!

I was listening to a podcast recently and the holistic health coach being interviewed made a statement that stuck with me…. “if you can’t eat what you’re putting on your skin, then it’s not safe to use!” because we now know that what we put on our skin…ends up in our bloodstream!

So, here’s a super duper easy DIY recipe that is safe to eat (meaning….the ingredients are all safe to have internally….but with that said I wouldn’t recommend sitting down to a meal of ‘ground coffee scrub’ hahaha gross). It’s also really affordable and would make a beautiful gift for someone…

DIY Coffee Scrub with Essential Oils

I’ve been a bit of a coffee addict since becoming a Mum 11 years ago and my sleep was severely disrupted. But did you know that caffeine also has some great benefits when applied to your skin and may brighten up your complexion as well as ‘perking’ up your body too!

Caffeine’s ability to constrict small blood vessels and reduce inflammation, and is the reason it is in a number of creams as it can minimise dark circles and sagging skin under the eyes. These same anti-inflammatory qualities serve caffeine well as an ingredient in cellulite creams, where caffeine’s ability to cause dehydration is put to good use drawing excess fluid from fat cells to improve the skin’s appearance. So, not only does it smell good, give us an ENERGY BOOST and keep sleep-deprived people sane, but it also does wonders for our skin.

This scrub also supports our skin by;

  • EXFOLIATION - Exfoliating on a regular basis helps us get rid of dead skin cells which hang out on the surface of our skin and allow new skin cells to turnover, making our skin look rejuvenated and more radiant.

  • CELLULITE REDUCTION - It also helps improve cellulite by increasing the circulation and moving lymph around our body (lymph is a short word for moving the fluid that’s present in our lymphatic system, it’s an important part of overall health and detoxification.) And the Grapefruit essential oil added to this recipe also works it’s magic with combatting cellulite.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup of ground coffee (can be fresh or used - I recycle our ground coffee from our plunger)

  • 1 cup of coconut oil

  • 4x drops of doTERRA Wild Orange Oil

  • 4x drops of doTERRA Lemon Essential Oil

  • 4x drops of doTERRA Grapefruit Essential Oil

METHOD:

Simply place all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and combine. Keep at room temperature and store in an airtight jar or container.

During a shower or bath, lather the scrub in circular motions over your body and face. (Be careful of your eyes and eye area).

You can use any doTERRA Essential Oils for this recipe (Frankincense, Peppermint & Lavender would be ah-mazing!) but I love the citrusy hit of the Lemon, Orange & Grapefruit oils. They’re all antibacterial and cleansing as well. Your skin will feel so smooth and nourished after using this every few days.

(Oh and p.s. if you end up with an oily residue in your shower or bath from using coconut oil products on your body, simply spray the surface area down with vinegar + water + lemon essential oil and wipe/scrub away)
